Worlds Apart Wines

Worlds Apart Wines

Worlds Apart, the winery that was never meant to be. Louis Schofield never intended on making wine. Firmly content in the realms of hospitality, he’d tried many an average glass that dissuaded him from wanting to approach a barrel of his own. But under the tutelage of Taras Ochota, he sharpened his winemaking tools and from the Ochota Barrels wine shed emerged a new winemaking project.

The emphasis sits firmly on drinkability.

With his fiancé, Hannah Jeffrey, Louis launched Worlds Apart in 2017 with a gullet worth of grapes sourced from the Adelaide Hills, the Eden Valley and McLaren Vale. Grown close to home and sustainably grown (more than anything because they taste better).

They’re worlds apart from staunchly natural winemaking and worlds apart from traditional rule bound winemaking. Louis and Hannah happily lay down a law of their own, merging the best bits of natural wine and classic winemaking.

The philosophy is simple. Local grapes that speak of place. Pure wines that people love to drink. The emphasis sits firmly on drinkability.
Louis has worked on all sides of wine — drawing inspiration from the plethora of wines he’s tasted, poured and made. From locally made wines from the Basket Range, to little known names across Europe and the great houses of France. After a decade working amongst the world’s best restaurants and stores, one foot still remains in hospitality. He co-owns Helbound — an underground Adelaide wine bar with a wine list spanning over 200 bottles long — and still remains assistant winemaker at Ochota Barrels.

Busy, yes. But cultivating wines amongst a community of growers and producers only adds to the pure sense of place these wines emulate.
